Well, about a month ago, there was this forum. It was about these 3 people who embraced Islam. The 3 of them were quite active in their religion back then. But lo and behold, Allah S.W.T gives hidayah to whom He is pleased with. The forum was called "Ini Pilihanku" (This Is My Choice) Those 3 people were Zamri Vinoth, Lim Jooi Soon and Shafiq Dendi.
Let's start with Brother Zamri Vinoth. He is a Negeri 9 guy who is an MMU grad. Before he became a Muslim, he was president of his preaching squad. He is an ex-Hindu and is now a Muslim since '00. He was asked about the experience before and after he embraced Islam.
He said that he was very confused. One of his parents was a Hindu and the other was A Christian. Now that made him even MORE confused. What made the confusion worse is what he learnt about Hinduism. He learnt about reincarnation, Heaven and Hellfire. The thing is, everbody knows that Heaven is for those who are good and Hellfire is for those who are bad. So why is there reincarnation????
Next, there was this one time when an old man asked him to come with him to the surau. He was still young at the time, so he just went with him and did everything with him.
After embracing Islam, he was actually scared that his family won't follow his footsteps. But Alhamdulillah most of his family did except for 2 people who one is underage and the other is quite against his new belief.
Moving on to the second panel, Shafiq Dendi. He is a man from Melaka and a grad from Bible College. Embraced Islam since the 24th of February of last year. His dad is a senior pastor. He was interested in Islam since he met a man from Ghana in Kelantan. Then he met Nik Aziz who gave him a book called "Kenapa Saya Bukan Kristian?" that contains the weaknessess of the Christian belief.
He picked up the al-Quran and read Surah al-Ikhlas. This Surah tells us to bow to Allah alone,the One and Almighty God. He couldn't sleep for 3 days thinking about this. When he read the Old Testament, Jesus (Prophet Isa a.s) never sad that he was God. At that point, he started to delve into Islam.
Lastly is Bro Lim Jooi Soon. He didn't change his name cos he wants to change the Malay's perception about a Muslim name must be an Arabic name. The Prophet P.B.U.H said that not all Arabic names are good. His name has some meanings...'Lim' is his family name..'Jooi' is the name of his descendants and 'Soon' means prosperity. He was a Buddhist and a Christian before being a Muslim which he embraced in '97.
When he was about 9 or 10, he was playing football one day with the kids and a fight broke out. It was the Malay boys vs the Chinese boys..Exchanged words led to this
Malay Boy : Korg ni dh la sembah patung. Die leh buat pape ke utk korg?
Chinese Boy : At least kitorg x de la teruk sgt. Lu org sembah dinding.
Malay Boy : Kalo kami x de dinding pun kami boleh sembahyang tau. Kalo u x de patung boleh ke u sembahyang?
Chinese Boy : *Stunned and silent* (Padan muka.Hambik ko ubat)
That point made Lim think. Then one day a friend gave him a video of Sheikh Ahmed Deedat............
It was a video of one of his debates on the difference of Mary (Maryam) in the al-Quran and in the Bible. Lim found that that were some...differences..to say the least.. And like Bro Shafiq, he was intrigued with Surah al-Ikhlas too.
All of these stories, about how westerners and other non-Muslims who embraced Islam made me think, "Have I been a good Muslim?" I'm a Muslim since birth yet those who converted to Islam is doing a better job than I am.
