Feeling Pretty Damn 22

Assalamu'alaikum, everyone!!

I've posted this on Instagram and on Facebook and it's been days since my 22nd birthday but I guess I just wanna have a reason to write here again.

Alhamdulillah. I'm now 22 years old and aside from some back pain and the on-and-off knee and ankle problem, I'm in perfect shape. My year as a 21 y/o was quite the ride. Ups and downs are natural. Although..I just wish that.........

I could've done more

But hey regrets are there, often times than most, to just haunt you.  So I sorta made a decision. Leave them behind me.

I've yet to find myself and I'm not really sure what I'm gonna do after I get my degree (if I get it on time la). Torn between some tough decisions. Don't you just hate it when that happens?

Anyway...I've about a year and a half left to get my Degree in Electronic Systems Engineering. But I gotta be honest.....

Sometimes my heart's just not in it. This is the honest to God truth. I wake up sometimes feeling so crappy and down and it just sucks the life out of me, man. That might just be me cranky from having to wake up to go to my 8 o'clock classes. Of course, sometimes I wake up on the right side of the bed but you know what I'm talking about. I sometimes don't see how my ambitions or goals connect to the course I'm doing right now. It IS somehow....Then I just thought that I need  the perfect motivation and push. After the thought, it just hit me................

Alright. Got it. Enough said.

Ain't No Style But Men's Style

Alhamdulillah, I've started my 3rd year in pursuit of my degree in Electronic Systems Engineering. I'm telling you, man. It's not a walk in the park. It has its ups and downs. But still, it's not a reason for a man not to do it in style, innit? There's a depiction of students at the first semester being polished and ready to learn compared to their last semester which looks like they've been hit by bricks (or books which seems more fitting).

Treading Lightly

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfiltri Maaf Zahir dan Batin to everyone all over the world.  Hope your celebrations are more awesome than mine.  Haha! I guess I'm too tired to do much and go places that are too far nowadays.

Notice that my Salaam up there has no exclamation mark(s).  There are times when I can jump up and down and crack lame jokes.  There are some times that I wanna scream my head off.  Right now, I'm sort of in between.

Dear parents,

Bear in mind that your children love you very much. We will always ask for your opinion and constantly bug you for advice.  But with all due respect, there are things that we wish to do our own way.  It's like us wanting to play football but you insist on us playing basketball. It's like some kid who aspires to study in the UK but he/she is being told to study in some other country that barely speaks a word of English.  Learning another language to just study in said country is hard as it is and maybe the kid thinks it's a waste of time. And his/her parents insistence on the phrase "You haven't tried, you wouldn't know".

I may not be old enough but I'm not THAT young either. I have to make my own decisions on certain occasions, don't I? (or rather 'can I?').  Granted, I may need some help but after the past year or so, my intentions are pretty clear to those who are close to me.  My wish is that the people around me support it.

To be honest though, what I'm doing here, right now writing this post, is like the equivalent why students copy during their tests/exams.  Afraid to fail and get yelled at.  So I'll just leave it a that I guess.

I wish it's that easy.

Assalamu'alaikum and hi, everyone!!

Happy Ramadhan Mubarak, y'all! Alhamdulillah, another of fasting in this blessed month.

Wow.  It's been almost 6 months since I last updated.  It was a matter of priorities.  It just hit me that degree-level engineering is way tougher.  And also the fact that someone told me to cut down on blogging.  A lot has happened. A LOT..

I think I'll share the worst since my last post.......

On the last week before my finals, I got sick.  At first, I thought, "Meh.  Tak de pape la ni.  Nanti ok la ni.".  And you know what? It wasn't.

Turned out to be a case of suspected dengue.  I guess it should've been obvious though.  I had splitting headaches, abdominal pains, fluctuating body temperature, numb hands.  The works.

Went to the campus clinic and did a blood test and the doc said my platelet and white blood cell count were low.  Sure enough, I got 2 bottles of IV drips going through me.  I got home that day and went to DEMC the next day and did another blood test.  At that time, I felt a lot better.  And you know what? Things got a bit weird.

My platelet count was even lower than the one I did at the campus clinic.  100 something to 70+.  Even the doctor didn't know what was going on.  He even told me to see him again after my finals to see "what's wrong with me".  You see, it's sort of a given to be admitted when it's below 100.  But I got my first final exam paper the next day.  I was persistent.

This was after I got back to UTM.  The amount of comments and well wishes I had was overwhelming considering I rarely get comments/likes/shares from anybody.

I tried studying for the 1st paper.  TRIED.  Then it just occurred to me.......

I always thought of pursuing my studies.  Namely after degree, I wanna do my masters overseas.  But after what happened, I just thought, "I wanna do more.  Not gonna waste my time on this.".  I'm not saying I wanna get wild and party all the time.  I wanna travel the world, meet interesting and fun people.  I've done a little bit of the latter but more on that in another post

Anyway, I'm on my semester break till September 6th.  Productivity ain't my strong suit but it won''t hurt to try.

I know I've been a bit behind on posting stuff here.  I think it's because I don't actually know what to post ABOUT.  Okay, that's not true.  I do have an idea but it's quite grim.  I think I will post it but not for a few more days.

Tonight though, I'm going artistic.  I found a link on Twitter (my tweethandle's @syauqistump1810.  Feel free to follow).  It's a link of artwork by someone named Damon Hellandbrand.  He's made these awesome pieces of "Zodiac Monsters".  That said, of course, it's based on the 12 zodiac signs.

One Choice Can Transform You

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Some of you might know this but I haven't posted it here though.  I've been having some phone problems.  My Galaxy Nexus got busted JUST before my convocation last November.  After going to a phone store, apparently my Nexus' motherboard got fried.  Sooooo...

I'm considering buying a new phone.  I do have a few picks but I'm not really sure.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Recently released late last year, the Note 4 gets compared to the Nexus 6 which was released more or less at the same time as the Note 4.  To those of you with big hands will find this "phablet" fit like a glove.  It's quite a big phone, 5.7 inches with a 1080p display.  And of course, it's not really the Note without the S-Pen.  There were issues on the Note 3 where the stylus was a bit hard to grip so the designers put some grooves on it to make it less slippery to the hand.

Unlike the Nexus 6, it's released using the Android 4.4 Kit Kat.  However, there is planned upgrade to the 5.0 Lollipop.  The Note 4 uses a 2.7 GHz quad core processor so most of the work done on the phone are quite smooth.  Swiping and app use like gaming and browsing on the internet are near-effortless.  A 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage fit the specs of the phone.  That and a feature of a micro SD up to 128 GB.

I'm not that much of a "camera whore" despite having an Instagram account but if I get this phone for a low price, I might just make an exception. The main camera is a 16 MP camera with really vibrant colours when taken and there also some extra filters and features on the phone.  Aside from the auto-focus, image stabilization and LED flash, selfies will turn our really crisp because the front camera is a 3.7 MP camera.  So yeah..I think I might make an exception to taking pictures.  The battery is a 3220 mAh Li-ion battery and can withstand about a day and a half w/o recharging with moderate to heavy use.

All in all, I think the Note 4 is awesome but since my hands aren't that big so handling it will be quite hard and I might have to use the phone with 2 hands most of the time.

So moving on to another option is the

OnePlus One

The OnePlus One was causing quite a ruccus last year.  People started using it and comparing it to the Apple 5S and the Nexus 5 and also the Galaxy S5.  Quite possibly because it's priced at half of those phones but with the same specs.

Using a 2.5 GHz quad core processor with a 3 GB RAM, it's more or less a smooth sailing process despite the processor is a tad bit lower than the Note 4. I t has 16 and 64 GB of internal memory but last I heard the 64 GB was for the sandstone black and the 16 GB was for the silk white version but that was  a few months ago.  Maybe they put some variety on it?

It's using a custom built OS, Cyanogen, but it's based on the Android Kit Kat 4.4.  A lot of expectations for this OS.  The display is a 5.5 inch screen with 1080p.  The colours especially in pictures look really saturated and vibrant.

Handling it is quite easy considering it's smaller and it's basically "wrapped" with metal.  So you're sort of touching metal.  The power and volume buttons are set quite low on the sides of the phone so the manufacturers/designers of the phone sort of thought of everything.  So this is quite an advantage for me.  Small hands, remember?

The camera has a very low profile as it's not really emphasized by the phone, just a small circle at the top of the phone at the back, right above the dual-LED flash.  The primary camera is a 13 MP version, 3 less than the Note 4 but the front camera is 5 MP, 3 more than the Note 4.  Compensation maybe? Haha!! When using the camera, you can just swipe up or down to change modes.  Night mode, black & white etc. Pretty cool.

It has a 3100 mAh battery which is not removable. The only hing you can remove is the back case where you can change it to another style.  Still wondering if I can make a custom-made version though.

There are other phones to be honest but I was sorta focusing on these 2.  I'm actually leaning on the OnePlus One.  The same specs as a 5S and a Galaxy S5 for just HALF the price??!! You kidding??!!!  Of course, gotta find some 'moolah' to buy it despite being not that expensive.  Still working on it.

To The Greatest Man Ever

Assalaamu'alaikum, everybody!!

Alhamdilliaah, I've finished my 1st sem of degree in UTMKL, continuing my studies there after finishing my diploma last April.  Exams were ok and very short since I only had 2 papers 2 sit for so I'm on a very early semester break.

I'm proud to say that I'm starting my break and also 2015 with the birthday of one of THE MOST and probably THE most influential man of all time.

Nabi Muhammad S.A.W

He was a man of the highest standards.  Even before being a prophet, he was known as al-Amiin because of his truthfulness, never telling a lie.  He asked a group of people if he was to say that an army was behind a hill, coming to attack, would that group believe him, everybody said yes for he never tell lies.

Orphaned at a young age, not being able to read or write, he strived in everything that he did which included him being a merchant under Saidatina Khadijah r.a who later became his wife.  This led him to become not only a man who was regarded highly but also a family man.

One fateful night, he was chosen to spread the message of Islam not only in Arabia but to the whole World which included him sending letters to leaders of other empires.  He was a man of peace.  He went to Taif to spread da'wah but instead he got thrown rocks and faeces from the people there.  The Angel Jibril (Gabriel) a.s offered him to crush them with the hills near them at the time but the Prophet (PBUH) said no.  Instead he prayed for everyone did wrong to him.  Don't get the wrong idea.  Despite being a man of peace, he knows when to act.  Our Prophet (PBUH) was also a captain or general in the ranks of an army.  People nowadays, Westerners especially, consider him a warmongering man for starting wars but how misled are they for the Muslims, who started off with mostly, poor people and slaves, were the oppressed ones.  Allah S.W.T gave permission to act and strike them.  He was firm yet fought in the best of manners according to Islamic law.

Michael Hart, a WESTERNER who sees through clear eyes the history of our beloved Prophet (PBUH) ranked Nabi S.A.W as the Most Influential Person in History, having this to say.........

Mind you, he's not the only who thinks highly of our Prophet (PBUH).  Some key figures in history including Mahatma Gandhi looked up to him................

Not only that even a certain footballer, despite not being Muslim, thinks highly of him....

How I wish to see our Prophet (PBUH) in my dreams.  Literally.  It is IMPOSSIBLE for Shaitan to take his form.  So if you dream of our Prophet (PBUH), it IS him.  My source told me that he will either smile at you OR turn away from you if you dream of him.  Hopefully he will never turn away from us if we dream of him.  Na'uudzubillaah.  Imagine just having the chance to see him.  The closest I got to him was when I went for 'Umrah in 2002.  I saw his tomb in Masjid Nabawi.  It might be the closest I could get but I'll take it.

His speech was soft and gentle like a mother stroking her child.  And his mercy and compassion were most radiant when he smiled.  He lived in modesty and despite not being wealthy, the Sahabah (close companions of Rasulullah S.A.W) said that he was always smiling.  What a man.  Such character.

His legacy lives on in the World that we live in despite the haters.  His teachings/sunnah(s) are being practiced even till this very day.  Giving Salaam, fasting on Mondays and Thursdays.  Even wearing rings can be a sunnah but that does depend on how/why you're wearing them.....

Every year, my friends, on the 3rd Rabi'ul Awwal of the Hijriyah calendar, we don't remember just the birthday of this great man who is the seal of the Prophets.  We don't remember how he spent the last days of his life before he died.  But we remember how he lived and what he did that even makes most non-Muslims give nothing but praises about him.

Try to reconnect and give Selawaat to him not only on this day but everyday.  It serves as a reminder to us about a man who puts himself after a lot of things including us, his 'Ummah, his followers.

O, Rasulullah, how we miss you dearly.

Salam Maulidur Rasul to each and every one of my brothers and sisters of Islam all over the World.

Sollu 'Ala Rasulillah Habiibil Mustofaa.

Peace be upon the Messenger, the Chosen One.
